Painful and Punishing - Moving

Monday, July 30th, 2007

We are in the process of moving. So not to bug and overwork our friends in 94-degree heat, we shopped professional carriers, which are very, VERY high in StL–there’s lots of layers of charges and lots more layers of people to get paid. Further, the broker who lines up the truck gets a sweet commission.

Bottom line: $1200 for 35 miles was the cheapest rate, so I reverted to U-Haul, and it’s like, ow.

The pathway/sidewalk to the old house we got is l-o-n-g and the doorways in the home were put in long before refridgerators or Maytag washers were invented. Also, the carriage(s) were parked out on the street as this was the servants’/coachmens’ problem, not the owner. They, not the owners, carried heavy stuff up the stone-and-gravel walk. (more…)

Go Megabus!!!

Friday, July 27th, 2007

A British company, Mega Bus is a discount passenger bus carrier in the midwestern US. It now services just a few towns (Indy, Louisville KY, StL, KC, Chicago, and Detroit) but that won’t last long. Mega Bus is going to flat KICK Greyhound’s ass, and then proceed to widen their routes to the bigger markets, and KICK Greyhound’s ass even more. Trailways, I suspect, is rather freaking out as well, and both the olden bus companies that stop at WAY too many places will feel the pinch.

For $10, my son rides from KC to StL. For $14, somebody can ride from Indy to Chicago. Greyhound spends that much on it’s daily electric bill, per station. (more…)

Walmart’s $4 RX program - It’s Serious Bank, and It’s For Real

Friday, July 27th, 2007

If it sounds too good to be true, it’s true. Walmart, who has taken THE MOST hits in terms by the public critics, has a winner of a trust-builder here. Yes, they pay a shitty hourly wage, and yes, well over 90% of their associates don’t get even lousy health insurance coverage, but this component sparked the goliath retailers successful war against conformity.

Don’t panic–the even-more-goliath pharmaceutical industry’s not losing a dime, but on second thought, as a supplier to Walmart for 15 years, I can bet you the farm that Walmart beat Glaxo, Smith-Kline, and the rest of the giant pharmaceutical manufacturer gang down in price just a smidgen or two. Moving

In three days Renae and I officially move from Webster Groves, MO to Alton, IL. Actually, she’s moving from her old house in Alton (her nephew’s going to live there–he’s squared away and will hold things down for her) to the one she and I will live in together. (more…)

I’m going to try to keep this bullet-style and organized; this issue can go as deep into detail as the Pacific Ocean’s floor. So many Americans are hooked on online bill paying but don’t stop to realize some cateats and risks involved.

Here’s some informative remarks: (more…)

Don’t Buy ‘Credit Protection’ from Credit Card Companies

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

You, like most Americans, have horrific credit card debt. You don’t know this, marrieds, but if you are married, you don’t freak as much as singles, about credit card debt, anyway. Why’s that, Phil, you ask? Just go with me, I answer. (more…)
