Len and the Acrostic of L.O.V.E.

REPRINT: It’s been thirteen or so years since I wrote this; I penned it on an ancient Apple 2 in ‘95 during a pretty tough period. I think I still got it in my old journal stuff which is in a box somewhere, but it’s not like I need to copy it word for word. I can easily ‘rewind’ and ‘recite’ it; I drew on it as a tool during all the recovery work I did back then. It still works for me. Here, see what you think: (more…)

Supporting our Troops AND Presidential Candidates (pl).

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The account of a recent email, apparently written by a colonel in the Army, is one I’m afraid I can’t support. By now forwarded to probably a good million American PC’s, his account/message states that a candidate was aloof and selfishly non-commital. In support of the efforts and sacrafice of BOTH presidential candidates, I’ll defend the democrat just as I would the republican one if he were under fire. I believe the allegation is bogus, so I’ll rebut it with truth and the comfort that truth delivers. (more…)

Movie Review: ‘Mamma Mia’ (2008)

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

This one was a wee bit hard to take. I am a child of the sixties, and ‘Oliver’ or ‘Mary Poppins’ are each vastly superior endeavors. Perhaps it’s safe to say that the old days are gone.

I’ll get to the film’s virtues if I happen to recall any, but let’s make it clear that the Swedish packaged ‘SUPER GROUP’ …ABBA is to serious music enthusiasts what Dizzy the Baby Hamster is to a rabid wolverine protecting her cubs. That the flick spun not one, but TWO outtake scenes with otherwise more-than-fine actresses simply chewing up reel…BUT TO ABBA, for Christ’s sake???

Read.

You’ve seen the signs in school libraries, and they’re in public libraries, too. All they say is true, and all its reading that’s the antithesis of thought channel restriction pattern that TV watching etches in the human mind.

I like it’s ‘escape’ component. If I’m worrying about silly things like a tight schedule or a tough meeting ahead or a nasty appointment with a doctor or bills I can’t pay…I read at night and a couple of pages later that stuff is all gone away, if only for an hour. Then, when the stress drapes it’s smothering cloak over me, I’m renewed. Speaking only for myself, I don’t equate such renewal with TV. (more…)

Acai Berry Juice and Noni Juice…

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

…..are probably the same animal. No, they’re not protein-derived juices or aminos; I don’t mean ‘animal’ in that sense. They both are in bottles made from the same bottle manufacturer..the glass’s thickness and color are high-dollar items. Yes, the two come from the same mfg chain and distribution channels into the US (direct) marketplace. You can only get them via direct marketing, and the two (2) clinching facts to all this is 1. there’s no berry/nut/fruit that’s called ‘Noni’ or ‘Acai’, at least that Darwin, Thoreau, Winkepedia, Brittanica, a dictionary, or modern plant science has ever talked about. Simple testimonials, IDENTICAL in form, typeset, the sites’ theme format…backgroundhill (more…)

A Tale of Four Crock Pots

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Whenever two adults go about their second marriages to each other, duplication of stuff is inevitable. I’m not talking about ‘baggage’ or ‘issues’; I’m talking, like, stuff.

Our strong point, then, happens to be crock pots. Fortunately, the pantry’s got a pretty big wall cabinet and the four line up on the middle shelf just so. Let’s run down what we’re looking at:

SIDETRACK: I can’t count the one I put out at the curb when I moved from Webster. I had lost the knob to the big silver-and-white slow cooker, so I carried the ample vessel to the curb for scroungers to have. Minutes later, a scrounge pulled up and snatched it. Seconds after that, I found the knob. That leaves us, then, a total of four (4) remaining slow cookers/crock pots. (more…)
