Downtime and Afternoon TV - We May Just Be Onto Something Here
Renae had a short day today and I didn’t have to drive into St Louis, so we drove around and got some stuff done. It was rainy (one of the hurricanes’ remnant storms is blowing slowly through) and sort of nasty outside, but we got through with errands, then came home and flipped on the TV.
My name is Phil, and for years people occasionally refer to ‘Dr. Phil’ somehow or another in playful chat. I finally know just what the hell they’re talking about, for today, September 4, 2008, was the very first time I ever saw his face. I think his show’s on at 3-ish or so. It’s not really that much of a show, really, people write in with problems (today was a daughter with her alcoholic mom, an alcoholic son with his dad, and a perfectly normal 17-year-old boy with an uptight mom who seemed to think her son was something other than perfectly normal), and then Dr Phil sorts it out. A clearly articulate guy, Dr. Phil seems a likeable and knowledgable fellow. More than once this afternoon stood up for responsible and intelligent parenting, and the Good Lord knows that UNintelligent parenting, if found illegal, would suddenly create a construction boom in the American prison-building industry. Thankfully, Dr. Phil didn’t come out and say that.
I’ll make a conclusions here. With us watching the convention last night along with the segment we’ll see tonight, AND the Dr Phil show that we just checked, that’s going to put me upwards of, perhaps, SIX hours of TV this week for me–and it’s only thursday!!
I don’t know what old my ‘old’ record was in hours watched/week, but it sure wasn’t in the league of six. Maybe this is good.
Maybe we are finally, truly, settling down. The company’s absolutely terrific, too. I’ve got popcorn duties–the REAL kind, that is– henceforth.
